About the artist
Joachim (Joe) Thiess, was born in Gornsdorf/Germany in 1947. Joachim lived in Munich, Cologne and Karlsruhe/Germany. At age 12 he became interested in art and continued as a hobby. Joachim Thiess worked 25 years in the printing business, doing re-etchings and hand corrections. He was later employed as instructor in this area for 3 years in North Carolina.
Joachim Thiess became well-known as a portrait artist in Germany. He is doing also work in all medias: pencil, charcoal, pen and ink watercolor, acrylics and oil. All subjects are covered including wall murals, animals, landscapes and still lifes. Joachim Thiess is a self-educated person.
In the past he has been commissioned to do assignments for Rock Hudson, Peter Maffay (European Rock-star), Wayne Gretzky and Fritz Walter (soccer legend in Germany) and all the World Champions in soccer 1974 including Franz Beckenbauer (World Champion as a player and a coach).
He also did paintings of Marilyn Monroe, Muhammad Ali, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones.
Joachim Thiess did action portraits of tennis star Steffi Graf (by request of the biggest news paper in Germany BILD on her 18th birthday) and Boris Becker.
Thiess paintings have been shown at Elvis-museum Memphis/Tennessee (original Elvis collage) also at galleries in Beverly Hills and San Diego/California, Vancouver and Edmonton/Canada.
